A Strain Gage on a Frying Pan?
The cast iron frying pan is an excellent surface to illustrate how to solve common strain gage installation challenges, such as:
- Filling and smoothing a rough, cast surface.
- Installing a strain gage on a curved surface.
- Alternative methods of surface abrasion, such as grit blasting.
- Temperature measurement and thermal output compensation.
In this video, Tom Rummage and others on the Micro-Measurements technical staff go through a complete gage installation using M-Bond AE-10. A CEA-06-032UW-120 Strain Gage and WTG-50A/W Temperature Sensor with LST- Matching Network are used to obtain measurements with Micro-Measurements System 8000 and StrainSmart software.
