Medal Metals

Watching world-class athletes compete in the Rio Olympics and perform under stressful conditions makes me wonder how professional straingagers handle stress.

Just like the champion Olympians, straingagers face obstacles that need to be overcome. Like the athletes, straingagers can’t control all types of stress, but we train and educate ourselves so we can control as much as we can to achieve the best outcome.  And that’s the key that separates the extraordinary straingager from the ordinary.

So don’t meddle with the Olympic medal metals’ properties if you’re straingaging gold, silver or bronze! Follow the tips below to ensure you’re a winner.

And just call me Coach Tom.

Sensor

The foil strain sensor would depend on the anticipated elongation and temperature range during the test.  09 STC (Self Temperature Compensation - CTE of gold is 7.8 PPM/°F). The size of the gage would depend on the strain field distribution.

The foil strain sensor would depend on the anticipated elongation and temperature range during the test.  09 STC (Self Temperature Compensation - CTE of silver is 10 PPM/°F). The size of the gage would depend on the strain field distribution.
