Structural and Vehicle Dynamic Validation of a Formula SAE Car Using Strain Gauges
In order to place well at competition, Formula SAE teams not only need a fast car, but must be able to support their design decisions.
Micro-Measurements® strain gauges were used to measure linkage loads in the suspension of Cyclone Racing’s twenty fourth car, CR 24.
Knowledge of these loads will allow for better component design to reduce weight as well as to validate vehicle dynamic simulations for design judging at competition. The project also provided the opportunity to create documentation and guides to assist future tests.
The Micro-Measurements® strain gauges provided accurate data that will cause direct structural changes on the next car and be used to validate changes to future Cyclone Racing cars.
