Pushrod Load Measurements Improve Racecar Performance
“A little push in the right direction can make a big difference.”

The 2015-16 Michigan State University’s Formula Racing Team set out to collect real-world data to understand the dynamic loading on the tires of their racecar. Analyzing and understanding the loading effects on the tires at different parts of the track would enable the team to fine tune the suspension and optimize the car to its fullest potential.
Foil strain sensors provided by Micro-Measurements were attached to the pushrod, with a protective heat shrink over the strain sensor.
The Micro-Measurements strain sensors enabled the team to see the axial loads on the tire surface, allowing the team to tune the suspension components.
